- Hearn Integral and the Spin Structure of the Nucleon

چکیده
The spin structure functions g 1 and g 2 have been calculated in the resonance region and for small and intermediate momentum transfer. The calculation is based on a gauge-invariant and unitary model for one-pion photo-and electroproduction. The predictions of the model agree with the asymmetries and the spin sturcture functions recently measured at SLAC, and the first moments of the calculated spin structure functions fullfil the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn and Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rules within an error of typically 5-10 %.

Nucleon and Nuclear Spin Structure Functions
Nuclear effects in polarized inelastic electron scattering off polarized He and polarized H are discussed; in the resonance region, Fermi motion effects are found to be much larger than in deep inelastic scattering. It is shown that improperly describing nuclear dynamics would lead to the extraction of unreliable neutron spin structure functions; on the other hand side, simple and workable equa...
متن کاملSpin Physics at Jlab in the Resonance Region
I will discuss recent results from Jefferson Lab on the measurement of inclusive spin structure functions in the nucleon resonance region using polarized ammonia NH3 and polarized He targets. Preliminary results on the first moment of g1(x,Q ) for protons, and the generalized Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn integral for neutrons are presented. In addition, first double polarization data on exclusive elec...

We test the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule numerically by calculating the total photon absorption cross sections σ1/2 and σ3/2 on the nucleon via photon excitation of baryon resonances in the constituent quark model. A total of seventeen, low-lying, non-strange baryon resonances are included in this calculation. The transverse and longitudinal interference cross section, σTL 1/2, is found...
